Maxi Jazz, writer and lead vocalist for the acclaimed 'Faithless' group, is preparing for a full season of racing in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB. The musician will race with the front-running Red Line Racing team and is currently conducting an extensive testing programme ahead of the start of the season on 8/9 April. "I've always been into motorsport," says London-based Jazz. However, commitments to producing albums and touring mean that his racing to date has been severely restricted. "You can't mix the two! But we're not touring this year, so I can go racing," he said during the Carrera Cup pre-season test day at Silverstone on Monday. I just want to keep improving," he says. He will work with team leader Richard Westbrook to keep building his pace as the season develops. When not racing this season, Maxi will be busy writing and recording a new album. However, he is determined to commit time to his racing and hopes to continue for another full season in 2007.

Donington Park saw the return of Maxwell Alexander Frazer (as they kept telling us on the radio). Maxi Jazz dusted off his race overalls, found the helmet, bought new gloves and went racing. In a very large field of 40 cars all qualifying together he started to relearn the circuit and how to race a rear-wheel drive car. All was going well until he was passed at speed by another car who then proceeded to spin at the Old Hairpin. The novice infront braked early and heavily and Maxi ended up hitting him. End of qualifying and a time yet to be set so he started race 1 in last place. 3 laps later he was looking at the Old Hairpin from the wrong side after misjudging the speed versus the grip. But all was not lost as he had another race on the Sunday morning.
This time the tyres were warmed up and Maxi started racing but then the ECU played up losing him power. He pitted twice and finished 2 laps down. Luckily the organisers allowed him to join the final so he got to race for a 3rd time but sadly the gremlins were still there and he had to contend with a misfire.
